Beer name: White Rabbit Dark Ale
Brewery: White Rabbit Brewery
Style: English Brown Ale
Notes: From the brewery website – “Raisin like ester characters derived through its open fermentation bind a balancing act of flavour with a malt bill that rewards the parched palette with a rich, dark colour without losing any sessionabilty qualities, which we love so much in a beer.”
A favourite of mine. But I’m a sucker for dark beers. Pours a dark brown colour with an off-white head which thins quickly. The beer has a delicious malty flavour if drunk at the correct temperature – not too cold! A bitter, hoppy after taste follows which is a great thirst quencher. My only complaint – the beer doesn’t have a lot of body.
Food Connections: Brown Ales tend to compliment grilled or seared meats. As this ale is quite malty, I would serve it with a juicy Beef Wellington with a drop of gravy or as a dessert beer with a maple-walnut cake.
